New Shoes: A New Start
|August 9, 2013||Filled under Running|
Since I ran the Cap City Half Marathon back in May, my running has really dropped off. I thought registering for new races would get me excited again, and it did…for a while. But my big move back to Maryland had me distracted and unmotivated. And on top of it all, something about my running shoes just didn’t feel right – they hurt just to wear, let alone to run in.
So one of the first things I did upon getting to Maryland was to buy NEW SHOES!
And suddenly, I feel the motivation again. I never want to take these shoes off! I look forward to my run every day and it feels great!
New place + New shoes = New Start.
I did a lot of research on my shoe type that was right for me. I was fitted for a shoe about a year ago and was put in the Mizuno Wave Inspire 8s, and I LOVED them. So for my next purchase, I figured I would just buy the exact same shoe from Amazon for cheaper, especially since by then, the 9s had some out.
Well, lesson learned. My second pair of 8s just didn’t work out. I never was happy with the purchase. I tried to save some money and ended up getting an ugly pair of shoes that I’m pretty sure weren’t even made correctly. I only put about 140 miles on them before I knew it was time for an upgrade.
So when it came time to get my new shoes, I didn’t want to make the same mistake twice. I went to my local sports store and tried on a ton of similar shoes. But funny enough, I tried on the Mizuno Wave Inspire 9s and they just felt right. Plus, SO PRETTY!
My old runny buddy, Megan, might recognize these shoes since they are the exact same ones that she wears. Funny enough, the same thing happened the first time I bought running shoes! Clearly, we both have amazing taste.
My first few runs with them were GREAT! Funny how shoes that feel good can inject some love and fun back into running.
Running in Maryland is really tough because it is constantly humid. I go out for a run and I look like I just went for a swim! You can’t really see it in the picture, but I am dripping with sweat. Yuck.
Not only that, but my neighborhood is super hilly. Seriously, hill everywhere! It is killing my times, but I don’t mind because the Runner’s World Half Marathon that I am signed up for in October has five hills, so at least I’ll be prepared!
I’ve been running consistently (-ish) for about a year now and here are my shoes. Yep, all Mizunos. I clearly have a type.
From left to right, they are newest to oldest.
Happy Fitness Friday!
