Have you seen the Don’t Fall For Fall PSA? Because it had me cracking up…and wondering how many of these “symptoms” apply to me…
I absolutely love fall. It means creamy squash soups, hearty oatmeal breakfasts, chai tea while bundled up in a blanket, and the outdoor aromas that remind me of playing soccer in high school or heading back to college to hang out with friends. The other seasons are great too, but they’ve got nothing on fall. Especially this past weekend — it was beautiful!
If you didn’t know already, yesterday was International Coffee Day!
I celebrated by sharing some pumpkin spiced coffee on the deck with my mom. This is one our favorite activities on weekend mornings. The weather is brisk so we bundle up in blankets and sit out on the deck and chat. It’s the perfect way to start the day.
When we got hungry, we made some hearty oatmeal for breakfast. Since it was the weekend, we actually had time to whip up some steel cut oats rather than the usual rolled oats. Both are great, but steel cut oats take about twenty minute to make so they aren’t feasible during the week. This makes them a fun weekend treat in the fall.
They were super creamy and I mixed in a ton of awesome stuff, including: bananas, blueberries, walnuts, chia seeds, flax seeds, chai honey, and chai concentrate. So much flavor!
I wanted to get out and go for a long run, but I ended up going grocery shopping with my parents and then taking a nap on my couch. I should feel worse about this since I have a 10k this coming Saturday (Oct. 5), but whatever. It’s the weekend and I like to enjoy it – not feel guilty the whole time.
I’m actually pretty excited for the upcoming race, but I’m definitely not prepared. I took two weeks off earlier this month and I have a feeling I’m going to pay for it. Good thing it’s only 6.2 miles!
Of course, this means I have roughly three weeks until my half marathon….yikes.
Thank goodness I discovered my office’s free gym! I’m really psyched about this. I wasn’t able to force myself out for runs after getting home after work — the commute was sucking all the motivation out of me. But now I can get a run and some weights in before heading home and I LOVE it! I’m definitely feeling excited about running again. Go figure – I was missing my treadmill runs!
And with all my bases covered — working out after work and reading on the metro — I feel like my life is getting back on track. When I get home at night, I love being able to just relax. No guilt at all! I’d still like to find a better way to work in writing and blogging into my schedule, but nothing is every going to fit perfectly and that’s okay. But now I can focus my free time on those things since the rest are worked so seamlessly into my daily schedule.
Here’s to being on track this fall! (and to pumpkin all the things!)
